Bunion Treatment You Can Do Daily

Blog

Bunions can be a painful foot issue that can make working, exercising, and daily living painful. You may find that if they are not healing on their own, a visit to your podiatrist is necessary. Unfortunately, you may have to wait for the appointment. This leaves you wondering what you can do between when you make the appointment and the actual appointment day. Here are some bunion treatments you can do daily that may help reduce the pain.

Padding

One of the leading at-home bunion treatments is to add padding to your shoes. Padding can be in the form of bunion pads that are placed over the area. You can also wear padded shoes such as hard sole slippers for around the house. This can help relieve the pressure causing the pain and inflammation of the area. Padding can be placed in both your shoes and on your bunion. You can also find different types of padding ranging from foam to moleskin depending on your needs.

Shoes

You may be experiencing issues with your shoes. What you may think is your bunion interacting with your shoe adversely, could be the other way around. For example, your shoes may be too tight, applying pressure to the area as well as rubbing. This can cause bunions. You may not have felt the pain until after the bunion formed, which lead you to believe it was your bunion and not the shoes. One of the easiest changes you can make is to change your shoes. Go up a size or look for sizes that have wide options depending on where the bunion is located.

Foot Care

Many people know they have bunions but may not know what to do beyond changing their shoes and adding padding. The truth is, you should be taking one more step to help reduce the bunion issues. This step is to perform routine foot care. Cleaning, soaking, and moisturizing your feet is vital. This can be done once or more a week. Trim your toenails, and check for blisters or other developing problems. This can help you spot a bunion when it starts.

Make sure to keep a special note of the changes you are making to further your bunion treatment. You may find that your issue is with specific shoes, specific time of the day or year, or other issues relating to your bunions. Even little notations on the changes you are feeling and seeing can be beneficial to tell your podiatrist for long-term pain relief and bunion treatment.

Getting My Feet Fixed Once and For All

After suffering a traumatic foot and ankle injury, I wasn't sure how to move forward. I wanted to make things right, but the issue was so significant that I needed surgery. After surgery, I was still struggling, so a friend of mine suggested working with a podiatrist in addition to my foot and ankle surgeon. It was an excellent experience, and it felt like I had truly made some strides in the right direction. On this website, I wanted to talk about how podiatrists can help you to get your feet fixed, and how making the right choices can significantly improve your quality of life.
