Pain in Your Feet This Winter? What You Can Do to Help

Blog

If you feel pain in your feet throughout winter, it could be due to the cold, or it may be because you have slow circulation, or it could be due to a few other things. This type of pain can make being outside, walking, or even when you're in bed at night extremely painful. Read on for helpful tips to help you prevent or treat your feet this winter.

Give Your Feet A Soak

Soak your feet in a foot bath with Epsom salts and two to three drops of peppermint essential oil. The Epsom salts will help to soothe your feet and remove toxins from the body. The foot bath will also help to soften your feet, while the peppermint essential oil will give your feet a fresh scent and can ease tired feet. Soak your feet for at least 10 minutes a few times per week. Be sure to dry your feet thoroughly (to prevent athlete's foot) afterward and add lotion to your feet to hold in moisture if they are dry. Then put on a pair of warm socks.

Wear Wool Socks

Wool socks can keep your feet warm throughout winter, while also wicking sweat and moisture away to help keep them dry. If your feet get cold throughout winter, consider wearing wool socks over your usual cotton socks. Also, wear boots or shoes that will help keep your feet warm. Bring an extra pair of shoes with you to change into when you get to work or to school.

Wear Slippers At Home

While at home, be sure to wear slippers to prevent your feet from getting too cold while indoors. Find slippers that have a hard sole, which can prevent the cold from getting to your feet. The hard sole can also help prevent you from slipping or sliding on your hard floors.

Go To The Podiatrist

Visit the podiatrist for a thorough exam to rule out any issues such as diabetes or poor circulation caused by other issues (such as from smoking or heart-related issues). Pay close attention to your feet and if they are purple, getting sores on them, heal poorly, feel like they have pins and needles, or have any other noticeable issues, make sure you tell your podiatrist about these symptoms to help better diagnose you.

Don't ever ignore pain in your feet, especially if it persists, or begins to hinder your day to day routine. Make an appointment with the podiatrist for an exam and for treatment options so you can feel better this winter.

Getting My Feet Fixed Once and For All

After suffering a traumatic foot and ankle injury, I wasn't sure how to move forward. I wanted to make things right, but the issue was so significant that I needed surgery. After surgery, I was still struggling, so a friend of mine suggested working with a podiatrist in addition to my foot and ankle surgeon. It was an excellent experience, and it felt like I had truly made some strides in the right direction. On this website, I wanted to talk about how podiatrists can help you to get your feet fixed, and how making the right choices can significantly improve your quality of life.
